Industry - Academic Cooperation Activities

Chung-Ang University has competent human resources and high-tech educational and research facilities, and it is extending further its academic-research-industry cooperation program. The Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation has been performing supportive functions as an independent unit since March 2005.

Business Incubator

The Business Incubator Center was established in May 1999 to contribute to Korea’s national competitiveness by bridging the knowledge and technologies of universities and companies.
The Center was licensed by the Government Office for Small and Medium-sized Industries. The Government has designated the Center’s Seoul Campus as a center for the production of imaging industry facilities and applied contents, and its da Vinci Campus, as a center for life resources technology development.
The Center concentrates on the following concrete activities to foster and recruit venture companies.

Digital Contents Resource Centers(DCRC)

The digital contents industry is a new high-tech field with high-value products. As such, it is one of the most welcomed industries in today’s knowledge-based society. The Center promotes cooperative research between industry and academy. At CAU, the Graduate School of Advanced Imaging Science, Multimedia, & Film and the Graduate School of Arts jointly conduct researches on digital contents and related areas.
The Center also fosters experts in the field and is standardizing the field while developing its information system with the establishment of a network of databases. In so doing, the Center contributes to the industrialization and commercialization of digital contents and serves as the frontier for international competitiveness.

Academy-Industry-Research Consortium Center

The Center was established to help small and medium-sized firms resolve various technological problems and improve their underdeveloped technologies with the Center’s competent research team and facilities.
The Center also contributes to developing innovations for those companies by providing various opportunities for collaboration with research units and enterprises. The Center offers consulting services as well as services for the establishment of information networks, sharing of research literature, and provision of research equipment.

Technology Transfer Center

The Center is responsible for patents. Its professors or staff develop and manage intellectual property rights. In addition, the Center commercializes excellent technologies by transferring them to users. The objective of the Center is to enable the flourishing of creative and active researches

Medical Center

Chung-Ang University Medical Center is composed of two teaching hospitals in Heukseok-Dong and Yong-San, Seoul. The Chung-Ang University Hospital, located in Heukseok-Dong, was opened in December 2004. It has a total floor area of 18,217 pyeong (0.67 million square feet), 561 beds, and 100 professors. The Chung-Ang University Yong-San Hospital in Yong-San was opened in July 1984 with the acquisition of the former Chuldo Hospital. It has a total floor area of 5,500 pyeong (0.20 million square feet), 440 beds, and 64 professors,.
Chung-Ang University Medical Center is equipped with new and modern medical devices (3.0T MRI. 16 Slice MD CT, etc.), and it runs a Total Laboratory Automatic System and a Hospital Management Information System (OCS, EMR, PACS, GW, DW, ABC, etc.). The Medical Center has also opended a Health Promotion Center, a Cardiovascular Center, a Patient Referral Center, and a Homecare/Nursing Center. With these new medical devices and systems, Chung-Ang University Medical Center has a vision of being one of the world's best hospitals.

Library

The University Library is a pivotal organization that enables the University to meet one of the requirements for its designation as an information-based and knowledge-based university, which is the establishment of infrastructure for a knowledge based society. The library is further contributing to the university by actively and effectively providing up-to-date information to the university members. The staff members of the library are trying to enhance the role and status of the library by actively joining, on their own, the ever-changing social milieu in the 21st-century information age. The library has high-tech contents such as a Web database and electronic journals, as well as revolutionary information media and a unified search system. Through its functions as a digital library, it is performing the role of an information center that provides the university members and its neighboring communities academic resources by collecting, rearranging, and filtering various kinds of academic information that are needed for research and teaching.

Computer & Information Systems Center

The educational environment of the 21st century is closely related to advanced information technology.
The spread of the Internet and web technologies especially requires a change in the existing information system to transform it into a web-based information system. It also requires that educational services be changed into an e-service system. The Office of Computer and Information has set up a main computer system and high-speed computer networks that are the most advanced among its peer universities nationwide. The Office has also established a comprehensive information system called U (“ubiquitous”) -campus, and digitalized its information resources. As a result, the Office can boast of being the most advanced digital campus in Korea, way ahead of its peer universities. Consistent with its grand goal of leaping into the league of the 100 best universities in the world in 2018, the Office is doing its best to offer the best-quality IT infrastructure and services.

Chung-Ang Center for Teaching & Learning (CCTL)

The Chung-Ang Center for Teaching & Learning (CCTL) was first established as an Audio-visual Room in the University in 1962. Its name was changed to Audio-Visual Center or Multimedia Center as its functions expanded. CCTL promptly and carefully develops multimedia teaching methods and multimedia-based teaching materials. It aims to establish and utilize advanced educational facilities by managing and developing cyber-university contents, digitalizing teaching/learning materials, and establishing a digital library, to meet the ever-changing conditions in the digital technology field and to significantly contribute to the development of educational materials.

Basic Science Center

This Center was established in January 1970 with the aim of supporting research and experiments by professors and students. It introduced the latest analytical instruments--a mass spectrometer and five other main pieces of equipment--with AID and PAD Funds. Forty different ultra-modern analytical instruments in the Seoul campus and 34 in the da Vinci campus are now installed in the campuses’ respective Analytical Instrument Labs. The Center is operated by professional personnel who support the diverse research activities and laboratory work of professors and students with accurate data measurements and swift analysis.

Dormitory Complex

The dormitory complex is a space that cultivates an academic environment and an autonomous sense of community. It has a rich tradition of fostering personal growth in a special university culture. The Seoul campus has About 300 beds, and the Ansung campus, 2,300 beds. Included in these facilities for students are study rooms, a resting lounge, restaurants, a convenience store, a multipurpose hall for movies and music, and a weight training room. Near the dormitories are tennis courts and a golf training site.

College of Extended Learning

This was founded to develop a continuing education system. It consists of the Institute of Knowledge of Education and Korean Language School. It is successfully performing the role of an open university. Through its continuing education programs and its human and material resources, the students can expect to realize life-long self-development and to enrich their lives. The college has supplied the local residents with professional and efficient education programs, faculty, educational facilities, and operations.
