'The 1st Fall Reading Festival,' organized by Chung-Ang University's Library & Academic Information Services, was successfully concluded on October 2nd, at the Chung-Ang Square in front of Building 101 (Youngshin Hall).
The event was organized to promote a reading culture within the university and accelerate exchange between students and the local community. Corresponding to its purpose, approximately 400 students, international students, and local residents participated, making the event a great success.
The event was attended by President Park Sang-gue, Dean of the Library & Academic Information Services Kim Sung-hee, Executive Vice President for Research Sung Maeng-je, Executive Vice President for Administration Lee Chan-kyu, Vice President for Office of General Affairs Park Ki-seok, and President of the Seoul Campus Student Council Kim Na-yeon. The attendees took the time to interact and engage in direct communication with the participants.
President Park Sang-gue delivered words of encouragement in his speech, "Reading not only enriches our lives, but also plays an important role in preparing for the future. The great author Franz Kafka referred to books as 'the axe for the frozen sea within us.' I hope that the book you hold in your hands today becomes an opportunity for valuable insight, and that it serves as a chance to gain new knowledge, inspiration, and discover your tastes and interests."
The event was held from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., divided into two parts. Participants, who filled the Chung-Ang Square, freely read books, enjoying a leisurely reading time under the autumn sunlight and, later, the ambiance of the autumn night.
The book flea market, where participants could donate and exchange books, as well as the book curation booth, ended up making waves. Eco-friendly experience programs, such as making eco-friendly shampoo bars and crafting with natural mother-of-pearl, also received enthusiastic praise. The proceeds from the book donations and exchanges will be donated to the university's development fund.
In addition, the coffee truck providing snacks and drinks, live music performances prepared by our university's clubs, and the 'Puang' photo zone set up at the event site all contributed to making the atmosphere even more vibrant and diverse.
Participants of the event were given portable LED booklights as souvenirs. Additionally, prizes such as Puang dolls were awarded through a raffle.
A student who participated in the event expressed the satisfaction, saying, "It was great to be able to relax and enjoy reading a book at the outdoor campus plaza. Thanks to the variety of programs, I had a wonderful experience. I hope this event continues to develop and be held every year."
Kim Sung-hee, Dean of the Library & Academic Information Services, stated, "This event is meaningful in establishing a reading culture within the university and strengthening communication with the local community. We will ensure continuing to offer more intellectual enjoyment through similar reading events."
