Chung-Ang University (CAU, President Park Sang-gue) was selected for the Global Basic Research Laboratory (G-BRL) project hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) and received a total of KRW 6.82 billion in research funds.

▲Professor Cho Eunjin’s team from the Department of Chemistry, ▲Professor Park Haesun’s team from the School of Integrative Engineering, ▲Professor Jeong Jingon’s team from the School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, ▲Professor Go Giseong’s team from the College of Medicine, and ▲Professor Lee Sanggil’s team from the College of Pharmacy were selected for the “2024 G-BRL.”

G-BLR, which is operated by MSIT and the National Research Foundation of Korea, is a government-funded project that supports small research groups to strengthen the nation’s basic research capabilities. It selects three types of research teams of intensive, convergent and pioneering to foster excellent researchers who will lead the country’s future in science and technology. The five CAU research teams selected for this project will receive research funding for 2 years and 9 months until April 2027.

The team led by Professor Cho Eunjin of the Department of Chemistry was selected for the pioneering project “Multi-atomic typical element catalyst lab.” Its goal is to yield research results through creative and challenging research topics in new fields that have not been attempted before in Korea.

Professor Park Haesun’s team from the School of Integrative Engineering will participate in the convergence project on the “High-precision computational science-based water electrolysis electrode advancement lab,” Professor Jeong Jingon’s team of the School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering on the “Next-generation intelligent sensing and communication lab” project, and Professor Go Giseong’s team of the College of Medicine (Basic) on “Basic research for expression and production of cancer treatment dual antibodies using plant biotechnology and plant crossbreeding and amplification of anticancer efficacy.” The teams will strive to strengthen their research capabilities based on convergence research by considering global research trends and future value, and enhancing national scientific competitiveness.

Professor Lee Sanggil’s team from the College of Pharmacy will participate in the intensive project for the “Research on innovative treatment strategies for peritoneal metastatic cancer by combining patient-derived organoid-loaded peritoneal mimicry platform and Trojan horse drug delivery technology.” A research team will be systematically fostered based on a research topic that further deepens existing research.

President Park Sang-gue said, “Chung-Ang University has achieved outstanding results in the government’s group research support projects, including the BK21 Phase 4 project and the Leading Research Center project. I am happy we achieved good results in the G-BRL project and further strengthened our status as a research-oriented university. We will provide full support so that newly selected projects can likewise produce excellent research results, and we will do our best to ensure that convergence research can be widely disseminated.”
