Future Education Policy Special Committee Meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Held at CAU

A discussion for seeking ways to transform the paradigm of higher education and nurture future talent took place at CAU.

 

The Future Education Policy Special Committee Meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister hosted by the Special Committee on Future Education Policy of the Korean Association of Policy Studies was held at 3:00 pm on the April 20th in the Academic Affairs Committee meeting room on the 3rd floor of Building 201 (Main Building) of the university. The Special Committee on Future Education Policy was established this year to study the direction of higher education policy.

Attending the meeting were President Park Sang-Gue and Executive Vice President for Da Vinci Campus Lee Hyung-Hwan, who is Chairperson of the Cultural Policy Committee of the Korean Association of Policy Studies. The attendees shared thoughts and opinions throughout the meeting, including ▲Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Lee Joo-ho, ▲Chairman of the Special Committee on Future Education Policy (President of Taejae University) Yeom Jae-ho, ▲President of the Korean Policy Association Kim Young-mi, and university presidents, including ▲President of Catholic Kwandong University Kim Yong Seung, ▲President of Kwangwoon University Kim Jonghheon, ▲President of Kumoh National Institute of Technology Kwak Ho Sang, ▲President of Keimyung College University Park Seungho, ▲President of Daegu Haany University Byun Chang-Hoon, ▲President of Cyber Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Jang Jiho, ▲President of Yeungnam University Choi Oe-chool, ▲President of Pyeongtaek University Lee Dong-Hyun, ▲President of Hankyong National University Lee Wonhee, and ▲President of Hansung University Lee Changwon. Officials from the Ministry of Education, including Director General for Policy Planning and Director General for Talent Policy Planning, and officials from the Korean Association of Policy Studies also attended the meeting.

The meeting was held in the following order: a meeting with members of the Special Committee on Future Education Policy, a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister, an introduction of attendees, greetings of the president of the association, a presentation by Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister, a presentation by Chairman of the Special Committee on Future Education Policy Yeom Jae-ho, a meeting, and a commemorative photo.

The objective of the meeting was to deliberate on the direction of policy development in higher education and to examine the implementation of educational reforms. Discourses centered on the local university support plan, including the glocal university project, which seeks to select and provide support to 30 local universities. Furthermore, there were lively discussions on university regulations aimed at enhancing the autonomy of university academic systems.

Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Lee Joo-ho said, “For university education innovation, the Ministry of Education is easing regulations. I hope that the wind of innovation will blow from a top-down centralized policy to a bottom-up regional innovation policy.”

President Park Sang-Gue said, “In the process of reform and innovation, conflicts within universities are likely to occur. By avoiding hasty conclusions and watching from a neutral position, the Ministry of Education can greatly help universities in their pursuit of innovation.”
