CAU Students Attend Korea-Spain Business Forum

Chung-Ang University students greeted the King of Spain on Oct 24 (Thu) at Four Seasons Hotel Seoul, South Korea.

Chung-Ang University has run an internship program with the Berge Group of Spain since 2007 to enhance its students’ global competitiveness. The delegation from the Berge Group accompanied King Felipe VI of Spain on his official visit to South Korea on Oct 23-24 to discuss various cooperative measures between South Korea and Spain. The meeting between the King and CAU students served as an exemplary case of the strong cooperative ties between the two countries. After the meeting, Chairman Jaime Gorbena of the Berge Group gave a presentation on the cooperation program between CAU and the Berge Group.

Following the event, the Berge Group delegation had a meeting with CAU President Kim Chang-soo at 3 p.m at his office located on Chung-Ang University Seoul campus. The meeting was attended by Chairman Jaime Gorbena, Corporate Director Joaquin Eulate and Communication Director Javier Arias from the Berge Group and President Kim Chang-soo and Director of Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation Kim Won-yong from Chung-Ang University. They had a discussion on their continuous industry-university collaboration and measures to further facilitate global education programs.

Founded in 1870, the Berge Group is an unlisted family business in Spain. As one of the leading companies in Spain, it is running a successful business in vehicle logistics, port operations and shipping while handling distribution, dealership management, marketing and branding of 22 companies including Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors and SsangYong Motor.


A CAU official said, “The CAU-Berge internship program has been well received by the participants as they were given great opportunities to have international work experience. The Berge delegation’s visit to CAU is expected to serve as a venue to enhance cooperation between the two organizations.”

Meanwhile, starting from two students in 2007 and four in 2008, a total of 46 CAU students have completed the internship program so far and the two organizations are planning to increase the number of participants to six from this year. Selected candidates will take a three-week language course in Korea and work for one of Berge’s subsidiaries in Madrid for five weeks.
