Five short films created by students from the Graduate School of Advanced Imaging Science, Multimedia & Film (Dean Lee Chang-jae) have been invited to the 23rd Florence Korean Film Festival (Festival del Cinema Coreano a Firenze), where they will be presented to Italian audiences.
This invitation serves as a testament to the continued international recognition of Chung-Ang University students’ creative abilities and is expected to further enhance Chung-Ang University’s global standing.
The Florence Korean Film Festival will be held from March 20 to 29 at the La Compagnia Theater in Florence, Italy. This year’s festival will showcase a total of 77 Korean films—including 26 feature films and 51 short films—offering Italian audiences a diverse and vibrant look into Korean cinema.
The five short films from the Graduate School of Advanced Imaging Science, Multimedia & Film to be screened at this year’s festival are △'Unspoken' by Oh Jae-wook (graduate in Film and Video Production), △'WavyWavy"* by Kim Ye-won (graduate in Film and Video Production), △'TRAP' by Oh Eun-young (completed coursework in Film and Video Production), △'The Wanderers' by Moon Hye-jun (graduate in Film and Video Production), and △'Uncensored' by Kang Dae-won (completed coursework in Film and Video Production).
In particular, the "Chung-Ang University Short Film Section," which was introduced for the first time last year, will be held again this year. It is a rare case for a section focused on a specific university to be continuously held at international film festivals. This can be seen as an important indicator that demonstrates the global influence and educational excellence of Chung-Ang University's Graduate School of Advanced Imaging Science, Multimedia & Film. Last year, a total of 20 short films from the Graduate School of Advanced Imaging Science, Multimedia & Film at Chung-Ang University were invited and screened, receiving a great response from the local audience.
The opening film of this year’s Florence Korean Film Festival is 'Escape' by director Lee Jong-pil, and the closing film is 'A Girl with Closed Eyes' by director Jeon Sun-young. Additionally, director Na Hong-jin and actor Hwang Jung-min have been invited as special guests. Director Na will screen his representative works, such as 'The Chaser', 'The Yellow Sea', and 'THE WAILING', and will directly communicate with Italian audiences through master class. Actor Hwang Jung-min will meet fans in Florence for the first time through a retrospective featuring his representative works, including 'THE EXECUTIONER', '12.12: THE DAY', 'The Spy Gone North', 'Ode to My Father', and 'You're My Sunshine'.
Lee Chang-jae, the Dean of the Graduate School of Advanced Imaging Science, Multimedia & Film, stated, "This invitation is an important opportunity for Chung-Ang University’s Graduate School of Advanced Imaging Science, Multimedia & Film students to obtain international attention and have their artistic excellence recognized in overseas markets." He added, "The Graduate School of Advanced Imaging Science, Multimedia & Film in Chung-Ang University will continue to challenge the global stage and strengthen its leadership in the global film industry."
President Park Sang-gue emphasized, "It will be a valuable experience for our students’ works to meet overseas audiences and receive diverse feedback," adding, "Through this, the educational achievements and creative capabilities of Chung-Ang University are being reaffirmed on the global stage."
