Chung-Ang University (CAU)’s Office of International Affairs (OIA) held the awards ceremony in the auditorium located on the 2nd floor of Law School Building, also known as Building 303, on June 12th, 2018 (Tue), in which it presented excellent awards on CAU student mentors for inbound exchange students.

A mentoring program for international students was designed in the 2016-2nd semester by the OIA to enable foreign students to better adapt to a new campus life in Korea and improve their academic performance. Under this program, departments/schools that accept the certain number of inbound exchange students are selected by the OIA, and their students become a student mentor.

During 2018-1st semester, 201 CAU students from 12 departments/schools were designated as a CAU student mentor, and among them, 26 students with great diligence and exceptional leadership were honored with the excellent award by the OIA.

Executive Director Hong Jun-hyun of the OIA delivered a congratulatory speech, saying, “All of you greatly supported our foreign students, which is why they were able to better adapt to a new life at Chung-Ang University. As such, I present the excellence awards to CAU student mentors in token of our sincere gratitude to them who contributed to internationalizing our university. Although this mentoring program ended, I kindly ask each and every one of you to continue to assist international students.”

Following the ceremony, those who won the excellence awards gave a speech about their specific experiences. One of the mentors named Kim Hong-yoon, a second-year student who majors in the Korean Linguistics and Literature, expressed his thoughts, stating, “Taking part in this mentoring program was very meaningful. To the best of my ability, I will make the sustained effort to provide support for international students.”

Cho Sa-chung, a mentee as well as fourth-year student studying at the School of Media & Communication, expressed his appreciation to CAU mentor students, saying, “This mentoring program played a key role in helping me to adapt to a life in Korea faster. It was pleasing experience for me to get to know Korean friends who supported and helped me a lot. I had met several mentors through participation in this mentoring program from 2016-2nd semester. I am still keeping in touch with some of them, although they already graduated.”
