Chung-Ang University (CAU)’s Office of International Affairs (OIA) took part in the annual Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) 2018 Conference and Exhibition. This event was held in Singapore for four days from March 26th (Mon) to 29th (Thur), 2018.

The APAIE, since its foundation in 2006, has been known as one of four largest associations for professionals in all areas of international education together with the European Association for International Education (EAIE), the National Association of Foreign Student Advisors (NAFSA), and QS-Apple. In this year’s conference and exhibition, approximately 900 educational institutions from all over the world, including CAU, installed 250 booths to engage in exchanges, and a total of 1,600 international education personnel attended.

Executive Director Hong Jun-hyun of CAU’s OIA and its staff members participated in the APAIE Conference and Exhibition and had a meeting with both 55 partnering institutions and 34 non-partnering ones to further facilitate its existing international programs and seek ways to newly sign an agreement on student exchange. CAU’s participation in this exhibition led to fruitful results, where it concluded an exchange agreement with 27 new universities including Malaysia’s Universiti Sains Malaysia, Hong Kong’s Hong Kong Baptist University, Italy’s University of Bologna, and U.S. University of Wisconsin-Madison which rank 264th, 299th, 188th, and 55th in the QS World University Rankings, respectively. On top of this, other higher institutions considered signing an exchange agreement with CAU in a positive manner. CAU, furthermore, held a meeting with its existing international partners and agreed to increase the number of exchange students on a semester basis, which would bring more benefits to CAU students.

CAU, through the participation in this exhibition, reaffirmed the fact that prestigious universities in the world make the utmost effort to achieve the internationalization with the utilization of their international exchange programs. They have been putting enormous effort into fulfilling their ambition in multifaceted ways: an increase in the proportion of English-instructed courses in universities of non-English-speaking nations, vitalization of short-term exchange programs, provision of scholarships for attracting more foreign students, construction of residence halls, and operation of cultural activities, to name a few. In the case that CAU successfully signs an exchange agreement with new universities this time, this will enable the university to send its students to new international partners as early as 2019-first semester.
