CAU Holds Launching Ceremony of MOOC Multi-studio and Singing Ceremony of MOU with Sony Korea

Chung-Ang University (CAU) holds a launching ceremony of CAU Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) Multi-studio and singing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation with Sony Korea at MOOC Multi-studio, located at Room B213 of Building 310 (also referred to as Centennial Building), at 2 p.m. on Mar 30th, 2018 (Friday).

Prof. Song Hae-deok, the director of CAU’s Center for Teaching & Learning, acted as the chairperson of this event, and key members from both sides including President Kim Chang-soo and President Furuta Ryoji of Sony Korea PS Engineering attended. The event was proceeded according to the following order: opening ceremony, ribbon-cutting ceremony, progress reporting on MOOC Multi-studio, congratulatory remarks by President Kim Chang-soo, congratulatory remarks by President Furuta Ryoji of Sony Korea PS Engineering, introduction of Sony Korea, briefing the details of the bilateral MOU, singing ceremony, exchange of signed MOU, and closing ceremony.

President Kim Chang-soo said in his congratulatory address, “I would like to extend my gratitude to all of you for putting enormous effort into launching this MOOC Multi-studio, the most advanced studio among those that Korean universities have. The university leadership will also spare no effort to further promote CAU’s online courses and reshape the landscape of CAU’s teaching style, thereby turning existing offline lectures into ones that encourage flipped learning.” On top of this, President Kim expressed his aspirations, stating, “My heartiest thanks go to Sony for greatly contributing to the establishment of MOOC Multi-studio. I will cooperate closely with Sony Korea so that we can create a win-win situation.”


President Furuta Ryoji said in his congratulatory remarks, “I want to offer my sincere appreciation to CAU members for helping us to establish a successfully business model that can be applied to the university education sector. Sony Korea, based on this MOU, will make an effort to provide best resources including not just educational solutions, but technical support, for our clients.”

CAU and Sony Korea signed this MOU so as to better develop both MOOCs and flipped learning contents. The two parties successfully launched MOOC Multi-studio, which consists of two studios: (i) multipurpose studio named “MOOC Studio,” where high-quality lectures can be filmed and recorded, and (ii) self-production studio named “SELF Studio,” where learning contents can be easily produced without the aid of imaging specialists.
