Dr. Kang Dong-wan, a research fellow at CAU’s Industry-University Cooperation Foundation, won the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship.

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship, as part of a mega research project entitled Horizon 2020, launched by the European Union (EU), is provided to outstanding researchers recognized for their scientific capabilities with the aims of setting the platform for encouraging innovative research projects and tapping into a new promising research field in Europe.

Dr. Kang Dong-wan will participate in this fellowship program with the partnership with the UK’s Bournemouth University’s research team for a period of two years from this November. He will conduct research, where he adds a wide range of artistic characteristics of the oil painting or drawing to moving pictures or 3D animations, with the research fund of 185 thousand euros (or 260 million won) under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship.

Dr. Kang obtained a doctor’s degree at CAU’s School of Computer Engineering in 2013 under the guidance of his academic advisor, Prof. Yoon Kyung-hyun, served as a visiting fellow at Bournemouth University for two years from 2015, published thirty research papers in international journals, and received approximately ten patents.

Meanwhile, in Korea, a total of fourteen researchers had won the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship for eight years from 2007 to 2014. Dr. Kang applied for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship in 2016, and it was finally announced that he received the research fund under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship program this September.
