A research team, directed by Prof. Song Hae-deok of Department of Education, Chung-Ang University (CAU), was selected to join the first phase of 2017 Social Sciences Korea (SSK) Initiative, organized by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF). As such, Prof. Song and his research team, consisting of Prof. Hong Ah-jeong and other three members from Joint Research Center under CAU’s Department of Education, will receive a total of 300 million won of research fund for the next three years.

Social Sciences Korea (SSK) Initiative, as a mid-to-long term research project launched by the NRF, was designed to not only nurture future sociologists and scientists, but support outstanding research teams through a systemic support in academic research, particularly in the field of the social science. SSK Initiative is especially meaningful, since it contributes to developing inter-disciplinary think thanks to the global level, in which they become capable of meeting national and social needs. SSK Initiative begins with a small-scale research group, operated for three years (1st phase), and afterwards, it designates a mid-scale research group (2nd phase) after the meticulous evaluation process and runs this group for three years. Finally, under SSK Initiative, a research center (3rd phase) is established and operated for four years with the purpose of developing the center into a large-scale research organization.

After being selected to be supported under the first phase of SSK Initiative, CAU research team said, “Our team will conduct research on developing Korean-style integrated immersion model to take the lead in changing the job market in response to the fourth industrial revolution.” The research team aims to develop Korean-style immersion model which reflects Korea’s circumstances since, in the wake of the fourth industrial revolution, a high level of immersion in jobs and organizations is required. With the utilization of an analysis tool developed from this integrated immersion model, the research team attempts to find an ecosystem model to create a better job market and enhance the immersion in jobs through establishing panels by job type and analyzing them in the mid-to-long term.
