Leave of Absence

Freshman may take a leave of absence for up to two semesters, with the exception of military or medical leave.
For a military service leave of absence, students must submit their Enlistment Notice to CAU upon their receipt of it. If a student intends to take a leave of absence, including a medical leave, he/she must submit an accomplished Leave-of-Absence Form immediately after the circumstances that have led to such intent occur.

  • Spring semester: February 1 to March 31
  • Fall semester: August 1 to September 30

How to takea Leave of Absence

General Leave

Apply using the “campus” system (http://campus.cau.ac.kr)

General-Leave Procedure

Petition for a leave of absence by the concerned student based on the campus system (http://campus.cau.ac.kr) → Permission for leave of absence (Administration Office) → Check the status of the leave-of-absence petition (http://campus.cau.ac.kr) → Confirm the information (Office of Academic Affairs)

Medical Leave

The concerned student must submit the following documents to the Administration Office of the applicable college:
an accomplished Leave-of-Absence Form; and a medical certificate reflecting the requirement of over four weeks of hospital treatment issued at a university hospital.

Military service Leave

The concerned student must submit the following documents to the Administration Office of the applicable college:
accomplished Leave-of-Absence Form; and a copy of the Enlistment Notice (students already in the service need to submit a certificate of active service).

Procedure for Medical and Military Service Leaves

Fill out and submit a leave -of-Absence Form at the Administration Office(Student) → Permission for leave of absence (Administration Office) → Check the status of the leave-of-absence petition By the concerned student based on the campus system (http://campus.cau.ac.kr) → Confirm the information (Office of Academic Affairs)

Return from a leave of Absence

A student who goes on a general leave of absence with permission from CAU should return to the university when the reason for the leave expires or is no longer present. Students may return from a military leave within one year after discharge from military service. Students must apply for return from a leave of absence four weeks before the beginning of the semester during which he/she intends to return. Students are not allowed to re-enroll when the semester is already 25% under way

Return from a Military Service Leave

The concerned student should submit the following documents to the administration office of the applicable college:

  • accomplished Application Form for Return from a Military Service Leave of Absence; and
  • certificate of discharge from military service or a copy of the family register containing the student’s military service record.
Precedure for Return from a General Leave

Petition for Return From a general leave of absence by The concerned student based on the campus system (http://campus.cau.ac.kr) → Petition for Return (Administration Office) → Check the status of the petition to return from a leave of absence (http://campus.cau.ac.kr) → Pay the tuition and register for classes (Accounting office/campus system) → Confirm the information (Office of Academic Affairs)

Fill out the Return-from-leave Application from (student) → Permission to return (Administration office) → Check the status of the petition return from a Leave of absence by the concerned student based on the campus system(http://campus.cau.ac.kr) → Pay the tuition and register for classes (Accounting office/campus system) → Confirm the information (Office of Academic Affairs)

Students who may be discharged from military service within four weeks of the start of the applicable semester can apply for return from military service leave. The application documents, however, should be submitted within the designated period.
